Gender and Sex is a major concern in our world
today. Sex is the biological distinction between
females and males. In contrast, Gender refers to the
socially constructed cultural expectations associated with women and men. The distinctions between sex and gender are
not always so clear cut. In the article Sexuality and Society, scientists
researched heterosexual and homosexual balance. They imply that from the time
of birth one is fated to be one thing or the other, and there is little chance
for one to change his/her patters in the course of a lifetime. In my opinion,
who really cares on homosexuality? If someone chooses to love their same gender
and sex, it’s really their choice and dedication to take on the critics. I mean
men should like women not other men but that’s how we were though in society
and life. Many people believe that preferences for sexual partners of a
particular sex are merely secondary magnifications of something that lies much
deeper in someone’s personality. Intersexual people are individuals born with ambiguous
reproductive or sexual anatomy. Having this in a man can usually result in
homosexuality. In research, there have been many attempts to show that the
homosexual male has a considerable crop of hair and less often becomes bald.
Their characteristics are often shaped like women. For example, they have
broader pelvis, larger genitalia, and a tendency towards fat. What researches say about homosexual men are
not all true. They say that they are not that athletic, and are more often
interested in music and the arts. I can’t agree with this, but I know a couple
homosexual males who are top athletes in their school and are not interested in
music as much. Also they say that homosexual males often find jobs as
bookkeeping, dress designs, window displays, hairdressing, acting, radio work,
nursing, religious service, and social work. This is true but all males and
females do these things because it’s what interests them.
I can definitely agree when people should be able to be whoever they want to be. No matter what society thinks people should care less. Even though scientist may do research but people should have the freedom to be who they are. Scientist can say anything but most of the things they said are mostly not true. Nobody knows what others are feeling inside and yes society shouldn’t be able to criticize anyone. Just because somebody has an opinion about someone else no one should be able to judge anyone. We are all people and we all have different preferences and people should be who they want to be.
ReplyDeletehola. :-D
ReplyDeleteI used to the same article. To be honest, this article kind of made me angry. I feel like their whole study is ridiculous and they generalize way too much. Like you wrote in your blog, and like what I wrote in mine, I know gay people that do not fit their description. In my eyes, this article kind of degrades homosexuals in an indirect way.
I used the same article and I felt the same way about the article because it generalizes the homosexual male community so much even down to their physical characteristics and the profession they choose to go into. I agree with your point on how it's someone's choice on who they choose to be with
ReplyDeleteI agree because I am a homosexual and I am very athletic. I didn’t agree with the article due to the fact its very vague. I wonder where they got this information from. I am a hard worker and my sexuality has no impact on my everyday life. So reading this blog made me smile because I wasn’t the only one who thought about this topic. Gender also is a cruel way to judge someone. I always was taught never judge a book by its cover. Thank you for this blog because it made me more aware of how society makes decision based on our gender and sex.
ReplyDeleteOk I read a different article than you did and I'm glad because the article that you read sounds really offensive. I agree that in the end what a person chooses to be or like is up to them and that's it. If it's not affecting others then why are they getting involved. Like you I also know gay men who are very athletic and masculine so it makes me wonder what these scientists would say about that. Also what about women that are lesbians? Just because they're lesbians will they be more inclined to like cars and sports rather than "girly" things?
ReplyDeleteI agree with you 100% that, WHO THE HECK CARES !? if some one chooses to be with some one of the same sex, its no one's business but that person. I like how you gave the definitions and I agree with Belen, above, that this article sounds very offensive. I don't think that people should judge others and I believe that people's preferences come from within. I am a huge believer in science and I don't believe anything unless it is scientifically proven. last I checked, being homosexual had nothing to do with genetics. men are born with testosterone and women are born with estrogen, which is what makes are sizes and physically body builds different. if some one likes some one of the same sex, they just develop that as they grow older because that's what the find sexually arousing. but again, that's just me! and I think that it is perfectly fine because every one deserves to be with who they want to be with no matter what.
ReplyDeleteHi folks,
ReplyDeleteI love the discussion you guys had relating to this article. You are right to question what you read and figure out for yourself if it is science or opinion. Good work.
